Sample foreign actors' voice demos and our top ten tips on getting the best voice demo you can for Australia.
- Get to know your new audience and local industry trends before making the demo. Listen to as many Australian voice artists' demos as possible.
- If starting from scratch, preferably have the demo made in Australia and shop around the different studios before deciding on which one to use.
- Your demo must be of professional standard.
- Keep the demo under 2 minutes in length.
- The demo should be in English, although it's OK to include one track in another language. If you're applying for foreign language roles tailor a separate reel in that language, but introduce yourself in English and preferably include one track in English.
- Only attempt the Australian accent if you are highly proficient in it. Get voice coaching before you record the demo at least to reduce your accent, if necessary.
- Demonstrate your versatility.
- Take direction from the producer.
- Duplicate the demo on CD, not cassette, and label the discs and their covers with your name and Australian contact details (in English).
- Research the market and where to mail copies of your voice demos (e.g. recording studios, radio stations, agents, casting directors, advertising agents and the larger clients).
