Children's snapshots and our top ten tips on having the best snapshots taken
- Children's photographs should have a "young and innocent" feel - even older teenagers'.
- Particularly when it comes to children, natural is best. No makeup on under-15 year olds and only light makeup on older teens. No curlers ("Shirley Temple look") or pasted down hair on younger children.
- Dress your child in bright, neat, casual clothes. Do not dress your child in a costume, such as Batman or ballerina (no matter how cute they are in it).
- Agents will be looking at your child's teeth and skin. However, don't attempt to hide missing or crooked teeth or touch up any blemishes.
- With children, don't be overly concerned with the idea of type. Let their own personality shine through in the photographs.
- Make it a game/fun rather than a frustrating and rigid photographic session.
- It's OK to have a toy or in the picture if it keeps your child interested and happy, provided it's not the centre of attention or covering your child's face.
- Don't over-direct your child.
- Children change particularly quickly so don't take the photographs until very close to the time that you intend to send them.
- Write your child's name and your mobile phone number (even if your child has their own) on the reverse side of each photograph.
