Child's headshot and tips on having a child's headshot taken
The headshot should be in colour with the possible exception being for children who only want to act.
Use your child's agent's photographer if your child is going into the agent's catalogue and/or website. Otherwise, choose a headshot photographer that regularly works with children (it probably means that they're good with them).
As an agent's photographer is usually only hired for one day, make sure that you and your child are available on that day.
Your child should wear bright, casual, age-appropriate clothes. Do not put your child in the clothes until you get to the shoot - and bring changes.
Do not bring anyone else with you to the shoot.
Be sure to arrive comfortably on time so that your child is not tired or bored from waiting around or stressed because of the rush. Do whatever it takes to make your child happy and well behaved during the shoot. Bring an "emergency" bag with you - nappies, food, favourite toy or security blanket.
Do not direct your child. Allow the photographer to do that.
Most children, especially models who are represented by an agent, do not need to get prints of their headshot. So don't spend money on them unnecessarily. Some children, especially those who model, do use comp cards.
If your child does have prints and you include a phone number on them, make it yours even if your child has their own. (An agent's contact details should always be used if your child has an agent).
As children change especially quickly, their headshots need to be updated more often than adults'.
