Actors' biographies and our top ten tips on writing a biography
  • Use white A4 paper, black ink and an easy to read font (size 10-12).
  • Use rows and columns of information, not sentences (unless you are high profile).
  • Include your name and your (or your agent's) contact information.
  • Include your training, credits, awards and scholarships. Whenever possible, divide your credits and training into subsections. Years of attainment and personal details (such as measurements and MEAA number) are optional. Be sure to include any licenses you hold and skills you are proficient in.
  • Keep your biography to one or two pages. If it gets any longer than two pages, remove some older/less accomplished work and label credits, career highlights or write 'Full list available upon request.'
  • Do not lie about or exaggerate your training, credits and skills.
  • Do not include jobs outside the profession or pad your biography with other irrelevant things.
  • Check for spelling mistakes.
  • Do not use any gimmicks whatsoever.
  • Update your biography every time you have something new to add to it or your details change.
