Actors' headshots for Australia and our top ten tips on how to get the best shot you can as a foreign actor.
- Research the Australian market (e.g. what types of roles are you likely to be cast in and what do agents and casting directors want in actors' headshots?) Compare several Australian headshots with ones from your own (and other) countries.
- If you are starting from scratch, preferably use a photographer in Australia. If you do use a photographer in your own country, make sure that they understand what is the norm/required in Australia and show them samples.
- If you decide to use a headshot you've already had taken, choose your most versatile one (for your introduction and general self promotion). More type-specific headshots can be used for applying for specific roles.
- If you're going to convert your colour photo to black and white, do it using professional-standard software.
- Translate your name, if necessary.
- Update your contact phone number, if necessary.
- As a general rule, use your contact number even if you have an agent overseas (but not if you have an Australian agent).
- Replace your originating country agent's logo with your Australian agent's logo, if applicable.
- Bring the master with you - preferably on CD-ROM or DVD.
- The industry may be smaller than you're used to and actors don't send them to people as often as in many other countries, so don't waste money by printing too many.
